CM’s resolve

I REALLY appreciate Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s declaration that he had zero tolerance for dishonesty in development schemes. It received much attention in the media.

While I have generally understood that the extent of corruption in public projects in Sindh ranged from 15 per cent to 25 pc, some of my friends who happen to be government contractors assure me that in some instances it has touched over 70pc! The chief minister has much to do if this is to be reversed.

I am a 1967 graduate of St Patrick’s High School and a 1973 graduate of NED Engineering College. I feel very proud that another graduate of the same institutions (who later obtained two Master’s degrees from the prestigious Stanford University in California) has become chief executive of our province.

The citizens of Sindh are aware of the determination he has expressed to tackle issues affecting their rights and the quality of their lives.

These include prioritisation of law and order, health services and education and many other important, but neglected, areas of good governance.

A legendary story about Lee Kuan Yew says that when asked how he had transformed Singapore, he is reported to have said, “When I became prime minister, I asked myself: Will Singapore become rich? Or will Lee Kuan Yew become rich?”

Each and every one of Pakistan’s and Sindh’s citizens wants to know what you will do for them. We look forward to a radical and sustainable transformation under your watch to make Sindh and Karachi great again.
