THE traffic system in Karachi is deteriorating with each passing day, and commuters face an ordeal in getting to their destination. Many of the city’s roads and traffic lights are in need of maintenance, while citizens need to inculcate a habit of obeying traffic rules.
Now in Karachi it is usual to ignore traffic signals and drive on the wrong side of the road, especially by motorcyclists. Rickshaw drivers insist on driving their vehicles in the fast lane whereas their vehicles cannot go faster than 70km an hour. Rickshaw drivers also weave in and out of traffic caring little for other road users.
Such behaviour leads to accidents and traffic jams that can last for hours. It is time the authorities dealt with the issue resolutely.
