ISLAMABAD: Abid Abdullah, an executive of the Jang Group of newspapers, was freed by his kidnappers on Thursday. He had been kidnapped in Peshawar the previous day.

“He arrived safely at the Geo office in Islamabad and is fine,” a journalist who spoke to him told JournalismPakistan.com.

Several unidentified armed men had abducted him on Wednesday after intercepting his car. Abid was on a visit to Peshawar in connection with his work. The reason for his kidnapping was not known.

Abid Abdullah is a senior professional and helped launch the Daily Express and then Jehan Pakistan. He quit the latter in Dec 2012 and returned to the Jang Group.

A senior member of the group confirmed that Abid had been set free.
