KARACHI: A traffic police official was shot dead on Sunday in a suspected targeted attack in the metropolis’ North Nazimabad area.

“Sub-inspector Mohammed Arshad was performing his duty near Five Star Chowrangi when armed pillion riders opened indiscriminate fire on him from close range and fled.” said police officials posted at Shahra-e-Noorjehan police station.

One suspect was masked while the other was wearing a helmet, added the police officials.

The traffic police official sustained three bullet wounds and died while under treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Investigators have collected five 9mm casings from the scene of the incident.

“The traffic official was performing his duty in middle of the road, which has been dug up for Orange Line while another traffic policeman was performing his duty at some distance,” said DIG Traffic Dr. Amir Ahmed Shaikh.

He added it is very difficult for traffic police officials to protect themselves.

“This was second targeted killing of a traffic official this year while last year, several traffic officials were gunned down,” said the DIG.

Law enforcers claim to have busted one team of hit-men who were involved in targeted killing of traffic police officials.

The held hit-men have reportedly told the investigators that two or three more teams of hit-men were still active in the metropolis who were targeting the policemen.
