PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department while clarifying media reports regarding the issue of allotment of 300 kanals land to the Women University, Mardan, has said that a piece of land measuring 1,000 kanals was approved in the financial year 2010-11 and acquired for health department in financial year 2011-12 for the proposed projects of allied health facilities in Mardan.

A press release issued by the health department here on Saturday says that of the 1,000 kanals 200 kanals were specified for dental college and hospital, 100 kanals for sports complex, 80 kanals for Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicines, 20 kanals for Institute of Herbal Medicines, 100 kanals for the campus of Khyber Medical University, 100 kanals for Postgraduate Medical Institute and the remaining 400 kanals for residential complex and external services.

The press release clarifies that thereafter a request through a summary was received from the higher education department for allocation of 300 kanals for the signature project of Women University, Mardan.

The health department keeping in view the importance of female education endorsed the proposal with the condition that the 300 kanals may be earmarked at one side of the land so that contiguous land around 700 kanals remains for the allied health facilities required for the Bacha Khan Medical College, Mardan.

Thereafter, the KP chief minister approved the transfer of land consequent to a meeting attended by all concerned departments in the best public interest. It may be noted that the 300-kanal land given to the project of Women University, Mardan, does not touch any of the indicated land identified for the project related to Bacha Khan Medical College, which includes the dental college and sports and residential complex.
