SAHIWAL: As many as 2,432 lecturer assistants in Punjab continue to demand immediate approval of a summary to award them “4-tier service structure”.

The Punjab chief secretary twice sent the summary to the chief minister with due approval of finance and higher education departments and S&GAD.

It recommended 4-tier promotion structure for employees -- lecturer assistant 42pc (Grade 7), senior lecturer assistant 36pc, lab supervisor (Grade 10), 19pc (Grade 14) and lab superintendent 3pc (Grade 16).

The demand was made through a resolution passed by the All-Pakistan Government College Laboratory Staff Association executive committee which met on Wednesday.

Muhammad Akbar, the provincial president of the association, told Dawn that with members working in 537 public colleges of Punjab they started struggle for better service structure of lab assistants 18 years ago.

He said a college lab assistant got two promotions -- Grade 7 to 10 and 14 in whole career, while others having same qualification get four promotions in provincial departments.

After three-year representation, then governor Latif Khosa accepted association’s demand and passed an order on April 23, 2012, asking the HED to prepare a summary for chief minister’s approval. He said at least 25 times the summary had been prepared but nothing concrete had come out so far.

He claimed that after clearance of objections, the chief secretary has moved a proposal to the chief minister.

He demanded approval of the summary and issuance of a combined seniority list.

The association representatives say they will launch a protest drive in case of further delay in approval of the service structure.
