LONDON: Gold dipped on Wednesday as the dollar strengthened, but prices remained largely range-bound ahead of a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen this weekend which will be closely watched for further clues on US interest rate policy.

Spot gold was at $1,336.76 an ounce at 1416 GMT, down 0.8 per cent, while US gold futures for December delivery were down $16.30 an ounce at $1,329.80.

Spot silver was down 1.1pc at $18.81, off an earlier more than seven-week low of $18.53. China’s silver imports in July fell 36pc, customs data showed on Wednesday, while platinum imports were down by nearly half.
