Woman booked for murder of minor house servant in Karachi

KARACHI: A woman has been booked for killing a teenage house servant in Karachi’s Malir Cantonment area, police said on Friday.

Hanif, 15, was playing with the suspect’s minor child inside Malir Cantt on July 19 when the child fell from his grip and sustained light injuries, police said.

They added that the incident infuriated the mother who beat the teenager with a “hard and blunt weapon”.

Hanif was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment the same day and was discharged after receiving medical aid.

But police claim Hanif’s health deteriorated on July 21 prompting his relatives to admit him to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Airport Iftikhar Lodhi said a murder case has been registered against the suspect on complaint of the victim’s brother, Ali Mohammad.

DSP Lodhi said the suspect left her house in Malir Cantt on Thursday and according to information available with the police, she was living with her family in a rented house.

He added that a security agency was also helping the police arrest the suspect.

A medico-legal officer at the JPMC in his initial postmortem report stated that there were “multiple injuries” on Hanif’s body, the DSP said.

However, the content of the report has not been shared with media “to ascertain exact cause of death”.

Hanif hailed from Mirpurkhas, Sindh, where he was buried on Friday.

The civil hospital Karachi should also be indicted for utter negligence by discharging a patient who had apparently received internal injuries which were either not checked or ignored...

Let the law take its course without prejudice. Criminals need to be punished in order to deter the crime otherwise Pak will remain a land of lawlessness. State is either sleeping or is working in connivance with the criminals. People are losing hope, it is time to act before it is too late. Media needs to keep such cases in the limelight until they are brought to their logical end. Justice must be served under all costs and no one should be above the law.

Too tearful which simply cannot be described in words. The employer proves guilty but running off from the house where Hanif was killed so police must catch the employer and then he / she be beaten alike in public to learn life remembering lesson before criminal case is lodged. Hospital staff who attended Hanif and discharged him prematurely must also be punished for professional negligence but I have my very serious doubts if the employer and doctors will be punished simply because the victim is none but a poor poverty stricken hungry. My goodness! Too tearful and heart breaking which simply cannot even be described in words to be honest where poor of the poorest lost his life in my beloved Pakistan which officially speaking is called as Islamic Republic of Pakistan. On the very face of it, the employer proves guilty but running off from the house where Hanif was killed so the police must catch the employer and then he / she be beaten alike in public to learn life remembering lesson before criminal case is lodged against the employer. Hospital staff who attended Hanif and discharged him prematurely must also be punished for their so grave and willful professional negligence. However, excuse me please, as I have my very serious doubts if the employer and doctors will be punished simply because the victim is none but a poor poverty stricken hungry.Rich and white collar are not never ever punished and instead they are very well protected on one account or the other, if not annoying. Though this child die but there are countless other children and maids who are mistreated every day by all of us. If you have a servant attending you, then that s/he is not your slave. Why does s/he has to eat in a different plate, drink from a different glass, has to sit on the floor when chairs/sofas are available?

That's the problem. This woman is not an exception. This is more of a norm. The reason it continues is because of general lawlessness in the country but also a simple lack of humanity in culture, where poor and weak are beaten regularly by those with power and money. Rich people, while spending hundreds of thousands of rupees on their own children will not step up and take responsibility for just one child of one of their servants. We are a pathetic nation.

I am pleased the Malir Cantt Police Station registered murder case against the person responsible. I also think there was some negligence for the hospital staff who did treated him well and let him go home.
