RAWALPINDI: Four people were killed in separate incidents across the city during the Eid holidays while five died and 320 were injured in various road accidents, police and hospital officials said.

A transwoman, Shahla, who was previously known as Munir Hassan, was shot dead by unidentified persons in her sleep in Ratta Amral on Wednesday.The police said Shahla had been shot in the head.

Separately, 25-year-old Imtiaz Ahmed was given electric shocks and killed by two persons, reportedly for ‘honour’ in Mandra, on Thursday.

Imtiaz’s father, Abdul Rasheed, said in his complaint that his son had a relation with a married woman and that the woman’s brother had called Imtiaz for a talk on Thursday and alleged that the woman’s brother killed his son. The police registered a murder case.

Elsewhere, 20-year-old Waqar Akhtar from Kotli Sattian committed suicide by shooting himself on Friday. Police are yet to find the reason behind the suicide.

In a separate incident an unidentified, decomposed body was found in a house in Kahuta. The body has been moved to the hospital for post mortem. Several people were treated for injured sustained during road accidents during the Eid holidays in various hospitals across the city.

Superintendent at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital Dr Asif Qadir Khan told Dawn that 105 people were brought in to the emergency after road accidents on Wednesday.

He said that of these, between 35 to 40 were below the age of 18. The emergency room at the hospital was filled with patients being treated for injuries they had sustained while one-wheeling. Around 72 patients were treated for their injuries sustained in road accidents at the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and 145 at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ).

DHQ Medical Superintendent Dr Khalid Randhawa said five people were killed in road accidents on Wednesday. Those brought in for injuries sustained during one wheeling usually do not reveal the cause of accident for fear of repercussions.

“The police investigates and books them for violating a ban on one-wheeling,” a police official said.

One wheeling continued throughout the city and the traffic police impounded 335 motorcycles during a campaign against one wheeling, according to a spokesperson for the traffic police. He said the impounded motorcycles included some which had been modified for one wheeling and those without registration plates.

Meanwhile in Hassanabdal, one person was killed and six injured after a speeding car hit a family crossing the GT Road near Cadet College on Wednesday.

One man, Mohammad Waqas was killed and Batool Fatima, Mehnaz Bibi, Mohammad Sher, Abdullah Sher, Tahira Bibi and Ayesha Bibi were injured.
