'I've got a real plan for Pakistan', says Mickey Arthur in first press conference

LAHORE: Newly appointed Pakistan Head Coach Mickey Arthur says he's got a 'real plan' to lift Pakistan cricket out of the dumps and hopes his players will banish all their 'fears' as they start a new chapter.
Arthur said that he had a 'real plan' for the national side as he addressed his first presser as the Pakistan coach at Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
"We need to improve our rankings and become more consistent," Arthur said.
"We need to invest in our players and be consistent in our selection," Karachi Kings coach said.
"I've had fruitful discussions with all stakeholders."
"I will manage issues on a day-to-day basis to make sure they don't impact the team's performance," Arthur said.
"I don't care if the team makes mistakes ─ professionals make mistakes," he said, adding, "I don't want us to fear failure. I think any team that fears failure is a team that struggles."
Arthur arrives in Pakistan
Mickey Arthur arrived at Lahore airport on Wednesday night after being granted the visa last week.
The Pakistan Cricket Board announced his arrival on their Facebook page.
He was appointed the national side's head coach last month after a turbulent selection process that saw the names of the shortlisted candidates being leaked to the media.
The post became vacant when the former head coach Waqar Younis resigned after an abysmal run in the Asia Cup T20 and the ICC World T20 earlier this year.
Arthur is ranked among top coaches in the cricket world for his extraordinary stint with South Africa. Under his tutelage the Proteas topped Tests, One-Day International, and T20 International rankings.
The former first-class cricketer coached Karachi-based franchise Karachi Kings in the inaugural Pakistan Super League earlier this year.

Mickey you will find only Misbah up to the standard and standing on your side. Hope you succeed with this undisciplined, selfish and self-claiming great champs team. The last straw is that of the political influence in cricket. This team and nation doesn't want to be straightened. A note.

my pak friends, please give this guy some time.. don't expect results just within 4-5 months.. also difficult foreign tours are coming up... i think almost all pak players have very poor fitness and if players like fawad alam are not selected it shows the careless attitude of pcb and the selectors.. the batting, fielding along with fitness cannot be brought about in months time. it needs a ground level change. I saw kohli resting the young talent sarfraz khan during ipl just because of his below average fitness(even though the guy is an exceptional batting talent) which shows how much fitness is essential these days.. improve fitness please..

Yes first get rid of nepotism and the country club atmosphere. Get rid of the lazy attitude and unprofessionalism like selfies, partying, speeding and social media. They are representing a national team and should be working at cricket full time. Also have a strong leadership unit like back in the days with IK and Miandad. One with strong work ethic and little tolerance for the aforementioned nonsense. The Afridi days of casual country club are over.

We tend to ignore the fact that the game of cricket is but a small clog in the megastrucure of our society. How could we reasonably expect a tiny component to perform miracles if the machine as a whole is rotten. Let's hope Pakistan doesn't take the mickey out of this poor chap

Not much hope from Arthur due to his attitude, he will make more foes than friends. In South Asia things work little differently than West. Her friendly gesture can make your work but warning very rarely works particularly with big ego players. He will be out oh this job by end of 2017 or early 2018.

I have a good feeling about this coach. But players have to respond. Pakistan has so much raw talent. Give this guy at least 2 yrs and you will see a team which is level headed and professional with improved rankings.

Biggest evil surrounding Pakistan cricket is selection. Good selection means good result. If Arthur really cares and have power to bring changes, than he should set a selection criteria based on performance alone.
Cricket is game of numbers. Make runs, take wickets, hold or drop catches, miss-field or do good fielding, Averages, SR, ER, etc .. and team win or lose. All can be measured in numbers. So selection should be on performance numbers of player. Criteria should be 100 percent transparent and easy to see for all.
Make sure no player can rely on permanent place in team, rather they should rely on their performance in first class cricket (over last one year, minimum 10 innings) to get into team. Selection should take into account everything, including bowlers or batsmen faced, fitness and mental alertness. If player has not played FC cricket in last one year, he should not be in team.
If Arthur can do that, whatever the result, he would give Pakistan cricket long term success.
