KARACHI: A fire broke out in a busy shopping mall located in Clifton area of the metropolis on Friday evening, which triggered fear and panic among the people present there. However, it was controlled immediately without causing any further loss to life or property.

According to Clifton ASP Tariq Nawaz, the blaze erupted in a generator room located on third floor of the Dolmen Mall, following which the mall was evacuated.

Moments later, fire also broke out in a fast-food restaurant known as ‘Chachaji’ on second floor of the same multi-storey shopping emporium facing the sea.

Two mall employees sustained minor injuries when they try to come out from the generator room while breaking its glasses, the official said.

The fire was controlled within 10 to 15 minutes with help of internal fire fighting system of the mall.

“As smoke spread, it created panic among the customers and shopkeepers,” said the Clifton police officer.

The cause of fire could not be ascertained immediately, said a fire brigade official.
