MITHI: An 18-year-old woman, Urmila Meghwar, was arrested after she allegedly killed her sister and injured parents with an axe in Ward-11 of Mithi town in the early hours of Tuesday.

The suspect told the Mithi police that her parents were bent upon marrying her off without her consent. They had fixed the wedding after a month, she added.

Initial investigation suggested that the woman went berserk on Tuesday after days of quarrel with her family members over the issue. She picked up an axe and violently attacked her parents, Ravito Meghwar and Chandi Meghwar, and a pregnant sister, Sorath Meghwar. The latter died on the spot and the couple was rushed to a Hyderabad hospital for treatment of their grave injuries.SSP Sarfarz Nawaz Shaikh, speaking to Dawn, claimed that the family had a history of violent reaction over family matters. He said another sister of the suspect had committed suicide some time ago.

The SSP said that her brother, Munohar Meghwar, intended to lodge an FIR against the suspect after the deceased sister’s last rites. He was quoted as telling the police that Urmila was so furious that she was very likely to kill all her family members but he overpowered her after she had already attacked three of them.
