US ambassador ‘pleased’ after treatment at hospital in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: While Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is in London for his medical check-up, US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale felt "pleased” after getting treatment at Shifa hospital in the federal capital on Friday, where he was diagnosed with “mild inflammation".

"Ambassador Hale has been diagnosed with mild inflammation," US Embassy spokesman Christopher Snipes told DawnNews.

"I am pleased to have been treated at a hospital in Islamabad,” Hale was quoted as saying.

The spokesman further said “it would take few days for Hale to completely recover from ailment as doctors have recommended him some medicines”.

Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif has extended his stay in the British capital and is now expected to return on Sunday.

PM House Spokesperson Mohiuddin Wani confirmed it to DawnNews that “Nawaz Sharif will be staying for another day in London on the advice of doctors”.

Why our PM keeps going to London for treatments? our hospitals in Pakistan not good enough for him while US ambassador gets his treatment in Pakistan? Our politicians are bunch of useless leaders.

Kudos to the American Ambassador - he obviously could have flown back to USA for medical treatment but unlike the Pakistani "elite" he chose to support Pakistan's health care system. He also paid his bill which is something Sharif would have conveniently ignored.

@Sunil - Treatment in London is just a ruse...the visits are of personal business nature or political rendezvous (Panama etc). Can you not figure that out?

US Ambassador got treatment in Pakistan and appreciated the facilities provided to him. On the other hand PM NS has gone to London for surgery, what a shame. Where is PMs Ministers who had earlier suggested for Musharraf to have treatment in Pakistan, even suggesting to arrange Doctors from abroad. Even Imran Khan had his treatments in Pakistan - why not PM to have treatment in Pakistan.

Not that there are no competent doctors in Pakistan , his condition has been treated repeatedly by doctors in UK. They are aware of his history and , in such conditions it is always advisable to refer to original surgeon who worked on the case from the beginning. There is a difference between mild inflammation and a cardiac issue but may be too much to understand for few myopic people

"Mild inflammation" does not require some expert physician and some advanced hospital. Any family physician can treat with anti-inflammatory drug, whereas Prime Minister's open heart surgery require special surgeon. He does not want to take any risk by getting treated in Pakistan.

Pity Nawaz Sharif does not trust his own Pakistani doctors for his treatment, while US Ambassador has no problem with the Pakistani doctors for his ailment. And Pakistani Prime Minister calls himself a Muslim.

@Justice,you need medical knowledge before passing judgment ,these two cases are entirely different .Nawaz Sharif's case appears to be already complicated and of a serious nature.

Our rulers are above the rest of Pakistanis by not using the same facilities as us rest inside the country. One day a couple of generations down the line our descendants will as why thier forefathers lived under such system/people. Where they handicapped or just stupid?

mild inflammation is just pain, redness and swelling and that too not a severe one but the prime minister is going to under go an open heart surgery which is a serious problem .

No comparison of minor inflamation vs atrial fillbration- we all know that the later is life threatening. Life is more important than patriotism. PM Nawaz Sharif made the right decision to get treated in England.

American Ambassador knows Pakistani Doctors are perfect in their field, So he prefer Shifa hospital, this step of Mr. HALE is the slap on our leaders who prefer London even just for flu..

Shifa International is as good a hospital as any in the U.S. and based upon my own experience, the costs are comparatively much lower. The ambassador made a smart choice.

Treatment in the above mentioned hospital for common man is no more a dream. So restoration of faith on our own institution (hospital ) need to give best treatment to common(poor) people.

Maybe some one from the PML-N government can ask the US Ambassador where the Shifa Hospital is located in ISB? The govt. seems to be clueless, and nearest hospital they could find for the PM was in London! Aaah, what a tough job the PM has!!!.. He's forced to travel thousands of miles away in a small jet, to go see a doctor in the UK, every time he sneezes!!!

@Shahid Apparently the PM has heart condition but that too could have been investigated in Pakistan. I doubt if the American ambassador would undergo angiography or open heart surgery in Pakistan or in India except in emergency requiring immediate intervention. Do not argue with the Indians ....we know their answer, they are able to do anything...even flying a probe to the MARS as long as it can be tracked and kept on course by NASA. And there is good reason to believe when their elders from the current ruling group claim that aeroplane was first manufactured and flown during times of ancient India. And they claim that plastic surgery was first performed by ancient Indian surgeons. You can not question their capability given the evidence!!!

What is the 'open heart surgery' Nawaz sharif is having? Is he having a bypass or is it a valve replacement? As far as my little knowledge goes, he has not had a heart attack. Why have the doctors suggested, whatever they have suggested (an open heart surgery?). The press has a responsibility for getting specific information.

Its funny how so many literate ppl talk like ill-literal ppl. Open heart surgery is not a joke and you cannot compare that with a minor “mild inflammation". Yes there are some really bright doctors but overall UK medical is way better than our even if we go to best of best hospitals. If PM would have gone to any hospital in Pakistan that would have meant that half of the hospital to be closed for security reasons. So in that case there would have been more talks. Guess pakistani ppl are never happy and are only good at bullshitting.

Pakistani PM could do his heart surgery in India. We have equally qualified doctors and best equipments. In fact majority of NHS doctors are Indians. It would definitely save lots of Pakistani Tax payers money.
