IN order to bring about a massive change in the police department, the Sindh government appointed assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) in 2002. The appointments were made for the first time through the Sindh Public Service Commission. Officers with good educational backgrounds like MBA, BE, MSc and LLB joined the police force, but later the department ignored their education skills. Thus, after 14 years of their service, they are still working in the same rank. As a result, many officers left the police department.

Meanwhile, others are angry because of shoulder promotions, ie without formal promotion board proceedings, awarded to a few of our batch mates, one of whom is posted as SHO in one of the police stations in Hyderabad, and the other is posted as SHO in a police station in Mirpurkhas district.

Also, a number of officers were demoted and restored to their original ranks, while blue-eyed ASIs are still enjoying shoulder promotions and are posted as SHOs. This is a violation of the Supreme Court’s orders.
