LAHORE: The Kahna police on Thursday arrested a DSP who allegedly abducted and raped a teenage girl a day earlier.

The police registered a case against the accused under Section 496-a of Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the girl’s mother.

The woman alleged that the DSP came to their house late on Wednesday night and took her daughter with him when she was not present in the house. She said the policeman raped the girl at an unknown place and left her outside their house on Thursday morning.

A Punjab police spokesperson said the DSP was already suspended from service on corruption charges and was made an OSD in the Central Police Office.

“The DSP has a history of misconduct, corruption and misuse of power. He joined the police in 1995 as an inspector through the Punjab Public Service Commission and he was suspended from service over misconduct in 2006. Later, he got promotion as DSP in 2010 and the following year, putting badges of senior police officer, he addressed a press conference. He was again suspended from service for taking bribe, forging a cheque and misconduct with colleagues.

“The DSP was last suspended from service when he was serving in the Punjab Constabulary and was posted in Rahim Yar Khan for writing columns in different newspapers without any permission,” the spokesperson said. The DSP was found guilty by the senior officers in several inquiries and he never appeared before them to defend himself.

An inquiry officer had written a letter to the Services Hospital medical superintendent on Jan 20 last for his medical and psychological checkup.

The DSP approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) and got a stay against the medical checkup. The matter would be taken up by the court on May 30, said the spokesperson.

The accused told the media outside the Model Town courts that the FIR and his arrest were a conspiracy against him and he was being implicated in a fake case.

Model Town SP Amara Athar said the accused was recently not posted anywhere and had to report to the Central Police Office for duty.

She said the official was arrested after registration of a case and the girl had been sent to hospital for medical examination. The results of the examination would be released in 24 hours, she added.

She said the accused was produced before a magistrate and sent on a 14-day judicial remand.

Meanwhile, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf took notice of the media talk of the accused and suspended the Kahna SHO from service.

Also, DIG Investigation Sultan Chaudhry constituted a three-member team led by SSP Investigation Hasan Mushtaq Sukhera to look into the case.
