QUETTA: Five personnel of the Balochistan Consta­bulary were injured when a bomb exploded close to their mobile van in the Eastern Bypass area of the provincial capital on Tuesday.

Police officials said that an improvised explosive device was used to target the police van.

They added that unknown men had planted a remote-controlled IED in a garbage dump close to the Sher Jan bus stop on the Eastern Bypass. It was detonated when the police mobile was passing through the area.

“Five personnel of the law-enforcement agency were injured in the blast,” said a police officer, adding that they had received multiple wounds.

Rescue teams rushed to the bomb site along with police and personnel of the Frontier Corps. The injured were taken to a hospital immediately.

According to doctors, the condition of some of the injured is serious. The injured were identified as ASI Noor Mohammad, and constables Tariq, Liaquat, Shah Nawaz and Mohammad Ramzan.

The area where the incident took place was cordoned off after the blast by the law-enforcement agencies.
