KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Poonjomal Bheel on Thursday resigned from his assembly seat and joined the Pakistan Peoples Party.

He made this announcement while addressing a press conference at the PPP media cell in Clifton in the presence of PPP Senator Hari Ram, MPAs Humesh Kumar Malani, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Salim Raza Jalbani, Syed Sardar Ali Shah and Khairun Nisa Mughal. He said he hailed from the Bheel community and was elected as district councillor for the first time as an independent candidate but later joined MQM in 2002.

He expressed gratitude to MQM chief Altaf Hussain for sending him twice to the Sindh assembly from the reserved seats of minorities. However, he added, he failed to deliver to his community because the MQM gave priority to urban areas.

He said he joined the PPP because it was the only party standing with minorities.
