KARACHI: A young man was shot dead while a passer-by sustained a bullet wound in an attack on a flower shop in Malir on Wednesday, police said.

They added that gunmen fired multiple shots at the shop of Mohammed Javed, who had rented the place in Malir 15 meat market a few weeks ago from shop owner Mohammed Yousuf. The deceased identified as Obaid Baloch, a friend of Javed, was present at his friend’s shop.

During investigation, the police claimed to have found traces of a monetary dispute between the tenant and land owner.

“The shop owner Yousuf had warned Javed to vacate the place within a few days and threatened him of dire consequences if he failed to do so. Today’s firing incident seemed to be linked with the dispute,” Malir City police station SHO Inspector Rao Zakir said.

The firing also left a passer-by wounded, who was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was said to be out of danger.

The body of Obaid was handed over to his family in Dawood Goth, Malir, after medico-legal formalities.

Man kills teenage sister

In Orangi Town, a young man stabbed his teenage sister to death on Wednesday.

The area police said that Hayat Ahmed attacked his 17-year-old sister Sumaira with a knife in their Fareed Colony home.

The man was taken into custody after the incident.

“The arrested suspect told the police that he saw his sister talking to a youngster on the doorstep of their home,” said Mominabad police station SHO Inspector Sabir Khattak.

“He turned suspicious when the youngster ran away after seeing Hayat. He then asked his sister about the youngster but she refused to say anything. In a fit of anger, he took a knife from the kitchen and attacked Sumaira.”

The family took her to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she died during treatment. The family later handed over Hayat to the police.
