MULTAN: The graduates of the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) and the Nishtar Dental College (NDC) received degrees at their convocations on Saturday.

Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana was chief guest at the 12th convocation of the BZU and the first such event of the dental college.

At the BZU, he said parents brought their children from heaven to earth while teachers took them to the heights of skies.

“Those who have graduated should put medals and degrees in their mothers’ lap and show respect to their parents,” he said.

He said education was the basic right of every citizen and it was an obligation of the state to extend it to everyone. He praised the launch of Endowment Fund at the varsity.

University’s Vice Chancellor Dr Tahir Amin said the BZU was working as catalyst of change in the region.

At the NDC’s convocation, Mr Rajwana urged doctors to serve in rural areas.

“People in villages even do not know what is dental treatment though it is a very important department of health,” he added.

He said that one must strive for excellence without indulging in money matters because “money is anti-thesis to excellence”.

Mr Rajwana urged doctors to go through the oath off and on for self-accountability.

He said the government was working on different health projects in Multan which included a kidney centre, Pak Italian Modern Burn centre, Children’s Complex etc.

NDC Principal Dr Riaz Ahmad Warraich said the district administration had identified 25 acre state land for the construction of a sports ground and a hostel and residences for the doctors of the college, adding that the government should gift south Punjab people a university of dental sciences.
