LAHORE: Ambassador of Norway to Pakistan Tore Nedrebo on Monday said a number of Norwegian companies were planning to invest in Pakistan, especially in the power sector.

During his visit to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), he asked the business community to help identify areas of common interests between the two countries.

Nedrebo informed that Norway-based company Telenor was providing employment to up to 5,000 people in Pakistan.

He said there was a need to make more concerted and sector-specific efforts to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

He further said Norway was ready to take all steps to expand its ties with Pakistan for socio-economic development of the country.

LCCI Senior Vice President Almas Hyder said Pakistan was well positioned to take off as economic indicators were portraying an encouraging picture.

He said as growth rate was expected to reach six to eight per cent in 2018 therefore businessmen of Norway should come forward and avail the opportunities through joint ventures with their Pakistani counterparts.

Hyder said LCCI would take a delegation to Norway soon to explore trade and investment opportunities.

The establishment of Pak-Norway Business Council was also discussed.
