KARACHI, Nov 6: ‘Youme Babul Islam’ was observed in the city on Thursday to commemorate the advent of Islam in the Indian subcontinent with the arrival of Mohammad bin Qasim in Sindh at the port of Deebal on 10th of Ramazan.

Ceremonies were organized at different schools across the city to inform the students about the significance of the day. In this connection, the students delivered speeches, and quiz programmes were also arranged to highlight arrival of Mohammad bin Qasim in Sindh and the Muslim rule in India that followed it, besides the movements initiated by Indian Muslims for independence.

Meanwhile, the speakers, in general, expressing their views on the significance of the day, deplored absence of the spirit among the Muslims, which was needed to promote Islamic teachings and which led to establishing of their rule in India.

Mrs Zahida Zubeiri, a senior Social Studies school teacher stressed the need for realization that Islam taught equity and honesty. Referring to the fact that Sindh was called Babul Islam because the Muslims first landed here, she further said that the people trumpeting their allegiance to Islam needed to actually practice the religion.
