GUJRANWALA: The Pakistan Cutlery and Stainless Steel Utensils Manufactures and Exporters Association on Sunday protested against delay in payment of their dues in the form of sales tax refund and rebate.

Leading a rally in Wazirabad, association chairman Khalid Mughal said they exported many cutlery products all over the world but nonpayment of sale tax refund and rebate claims had affected the export of knife, dagger and sword. A number of workers are rendered jobless in such a situation, he said while blaming the government for ignoring the refund of sales tax.

These products could not be sold in the local markets, he said and demanded that Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and the Sambrial Dry Port collector to take necessary action.

Meanwhile, the district government has pledged to support the ceramics industry. District Coordination Officer Muhammad Aamir Jan during consultation meeting with representatives of the industry assured the delegation that it would not be banned.

POLICE: Regional Police Officer Muhammad Tahir has said the police would help intelligence agencies to maintain law and order.

Speaking to police officials while presiding over a meeting at his office here on Sunday, he claimed police had come up with strategic plan to effectively control crime and bring the proclaimed offenders, extortionists and mafias to the book.

“The role of officers is very important to eliminate the crime from society so they must perform their duties with utmost devotion,” he said and urged the officers to maintain record of the police stations.

Complainants, he stressed, must be fairly treated and lent patient hearing.
