LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police claimed on Friday to have solved the pregnant woman’s murder case by arresting her husband who confessed to killing her for she was opposed to his second marriage.

Amna, 25, was shot at and injured on Sunderdas Road when she was returning home with her husband, Usman, on Dec 29. The woman was taken to the Services Hospital where after giving birth to a baby girl she succumbed to her injuries.

The baby was shifted to an incubator where she expired on Dec 31.

Quoting victim’s husband Usman, police said the man in his initial statement claimed that his wife was shot at and injured by two armed motorcyclists over robbery resistance.

Senior police officials took notice of the incident and directed CIA SSP Umer Virk to arrest the suspects involved in the killing of the woman.

The SSP told Dawn that they visited the crime scene and sent the evidence to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.

He said the forensic reports revealed that the woman was shot from a close range and it raised suspicion on the statements of her husband and police took him into custody.

He said during interrogation, it was revealed that the man was not having good relations with his wife. He had also applied for a visa to leave the country.

The SSP said Usman during interrogation confessed to killing his wife in Zaman Park area. He said he threw the pistol in the canal and later parked the car on Sunder Das Road.

Police recovered the pistol from the canal, the SSP added.

The accused told media that he was against marrying Amna but surrendered to the will of his parents.
