Pakistan tennis squads named for South Asian Games in India

KARACHI: Pakistan Tennis Federation, after holding trials for five days, has finalised men and women tennis teams for the forthcoming South Asian Games which will be staged in Guwahati, India from Feb 6-16.

Tennis singles, doubles and mixed doubles’ events are scheduled to be held from Feb 7-11 at Guwahati on plexipave (synthetic surface) hard courts.

Seven top-ranked men and ten women players featured in the five-day trials at the Pakistan Sports Board plexipave courts. Former Davis Cupper Inam-ul-Haq was the supervisor and coordinator of these trials. Four men and an equal number of women players were selected for participation.

Chairman selection committee Khawaja Saeed Hai announced the teams.

A coaching camp for both the teams has commenced at Bagh-e-Jinnah PLTA tennis courts in Lahore. The Pakistan contingent is expected to leave for India on Feb 3.

Men’s squad: Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi, Aqeel Khan (exempted from trials), Yasir Khan and Abid Mushtaq. Rashid Malik (captain-cum-coach).

Women’s squad: Sara Mansoor, Sarah Mahboob, Ushna Suhail and Iman Qureshi. Khalid Siddique (captain-cum-coach).
