First British Muslim in space

HUSSAIN Manawer, a 24-year-old from London, won a trip to space when he beat people from 90 countries to win a competition organised by a talent agency.

He gave a spoken word performance about anxiety, depression and self-harm that impressed the judges. He has dedicated his trip to people who have experienced mental illness. The incredible prize was presented to Hussain Manawer by Nasa astronaut Ron Garan at One Young World summit in Bangkok recently.

He’ll be travelling 60 miles into space in 2018 and will be put through a training programme to ready him for the trip.

J.K. Rowling’s working on new children’s book

ALL you J.K. Rowling fans, she has more coming for you. The Harry Potter author is promoting her latest novel for grownups, Career of Evil. She said it is the only book she’s “ever written that has literally given me nightmares.”

But while Rowling has recently been focusing on novels for grown-ups, she said she’s got something coming for her younger fans.

“I have written part of a children’s book that I really love, so there will be another children’s book,” she said.

Rowling has built an empire out of her Harry Potter series, which spurred an enormously successful movie franchise. She’s never far from the Potter universe, as she often posts on her Pottermore site.

She’s also got the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film, a Potter spinoff, as well as the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage production, which is set to premiere at the Palace Theatre in London next summer.
