KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday granted pre-arrest bail to Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Rauf Siddiqui in a case registered against former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain.

A two-judge bench gave him interim bail before arrest in the case in the sum of Rs200,000.

The MQM leader submitted in his bail application that the North Nazimabad police had registered a case against Dr Asim, a close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, for allegedly treating and sheltering terrorists.

He said that he learnt that he was also named in the FIR while he had nothing to do with the case.

The applicant MQM leader said that he never phoned Dr Asim for the medical treatment of anyone.

He said that he was prepared to face the charges, but he apprehended his arrest.

The applicant requested the court to grant him pre-arrest bail so that he could approach the trial court to defend himself.

The bench gave him pre-arrest bail for four days directing him to approach the trial court.
