KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday, led by party chairman Imran Khan, thronged the city with their massive rally that marched through the different areas of the metropolis as part of the election campaign ahead of the upcoming local government polls.
Imran also addressed a public gathering at Lyari’s famous Kakri ground in the evening, DawnNews reported.
Speaking to the party activists and supporters, Imran said “I have has come to make a new Karachi and new Lyrai”.
“The people were divided on political and ethnic grounds by political forces for their own benefit,” Imran maintained.
The PTI chairman said that he has witnessed the downfall of Karachi at the hands of police and corrupt political parties.
He claimed that Karachi’s investment got shifted to Dubai and the metropolis was systematically ruined to develop Dubai.
Land grabbing mafias have destroyed the city of lights turn by turn, he said, questioning that “why should we give vote to the people who are not sincere to the local masses”?
Imran vowed that his party will bring the system of justice, where everyone will be equally accountable before the court of law.
Local body elections in Karachi are scheduled for December 5.
For the third phase of local body polls, PTI and JI have formed an alliance in Karachi to contest the elections.
On Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) had taken out a joint rally in Karachi which ended before reaching its announced destination of Quaid-i-Azam's mausoleum.
The rally ended in the Jail Chowrangi area of the metropolis, as PTI and JI did not have permission from the city's administration.
Earlier in November, PTI chairman Imran Khan arrived in Sindh on a two-day visit ahead of the second phase of local body polls in the province and toured the areas of Tando Allah Yar, Tando Jam and Umerkot district.
During the second phase of the polls, PPP gained a majority of seats in Sindh, with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) achieving considerable success in Hyderabad district.
The Zulfiqar Mirza-led splinter group also managed to sweep the polls in Badin district, a traditional stronghold of the PPP.

I have been following rallies since this morning all day and I have not see IK has said something new. His complaints go on and on and on. People got sick of his rhetoric speeches and accusations. People want his plans for development of the city rather blames or accusations. My observation is that IK is completely flopped and his alliance with JI has destroyed the remaining image (if any) of his party in Karachi.

PTI is the best choice for the people of Karachi, which can only bring back to this troubled city that has never witnessed peace for last three decades after the creation of political parties on ethnic lines. PTI should go street to street and convince the people to come out of their homes and vote for PTI candidates, so that PTI can be able to translate its promise of creating truly independent, self-reliant and prosperous Pakistan which is free from debt, dependency, and discord. IK having been for the first time ever in gov. in KPK has done wonders. Terrorism and crime activities have gone down by 60 percent during his tenure. Police and Hospitals are much better. Education is most improved as per Alif Ailaan. If MQM trolls cant see these changes then i dont know what will make them.

Once again we see the tired, old rhetoric from Khan and his cohorts. He lands like a vulture ever time there are elections in Karachi and the only message he has is of criticism, ridicule or hatred against MQM. Not a single time has he or party come up with a tangible manifesto for Karachi.
Karachi has seen enough of this anti mqm rhetoric. What could have been refreshing would have been to see some real, touchable issues being raised rather than vague promises of turning back the city to its former glory. Does the Khan and his party have the guts to demand a full fledged metropolitan government for Karachi with a directly elected mayor and with a locally recruited police answerable to local representatives; all of this within the provincial boundaries and hence non confrontational in nature and completely in accordance with international norms.
I bet my two cents and more that he or his party would never come up with such a real demand for Karachi.

I see PTI is a true national level party, where every Pakistani can come and join to make Pakistan a true democratic country, whereas other parties are loosing the ground. PML has been limited to Punjab, PPP has been limited to Sindh, Awami National Party, has been limited to KPK, and MQM is purely an ethnic party limited to Karachi and partly Hyderabad.

@Jamal I agree what you say, but you must understand that resources were beyond MQM access. Although MQM has been a part of the government but required funds were not released. If you recall the MQM ministers always complained about the funds that were not given by the narrow mind people from interior. The unavailability of funds has caused the destruction of the infrastructure of Karachi and now the city reflects image of interior sindh. Now people of Karachi have decided to get their share by any means and this is why MQM is in full swing. As you know people of Karachi excited for beginning movement of separate province following landslide victory on Dec 5.

IK always talks about change..change.., but when we look his credentials we do not find anything credible and plausible. He has full authority in KPK but except police reforms (which he refers everywhere) he did not do anything which could be considered as a model. He cannot organize and manage his party workers (whom he calls 'Janooni' means Crazy) how he would manage the whole country. It is a big question.

Ayub Khan shifted the capital from Karachi to Islamabad in 1960 to strengthen his dictatorship as he was fully aware that Karachi being a political and literate city will not allow his rule to prolong.He was the person who repeatedly instilled ethnicity and hatred amongst the people so to suppress those against his rule.Same policy was adopted by other leaders too and centralisation of power brought misfortune for Pakistan.If Imran Khan is serious to fight for the rights of Karachites then he must announce that the status of Karachi prior to 1960 will be restored,either it will be under the capital or separate administered area.Karachites need solid solution as maligning MQM for everthing will backfire.

IK has finished his tour to Karachi and returned back to his destination. Throughout the day his tour was mismanaged and haphazard situation prevailed within his colleagues. The organizers were confused and failed to organize his tour appropriately. In Dawood Chowrangi the workers were deceived by the organizers of the tour as IK left the gathering without talking to them. This outraged the workers who threw stones, eggs to the stage and organizers saved themselves hiding under or over tables and chairs. What is this? This is what IK is going to bring into his government. IK must develop his organizational and management skills before he could think of moving towards government. In KPK this attitude and behavior may work but not in rest of Pakistan as other people are sensible and educated.

I would vote for Imran Khan just so other political parties feel that they have some contention. MQM has held monolopy over Karachi for far too long, and have not done anything for the people. They don't need to do anything because they know they can get votes even if they don't give back to the people. It's time that Karachiites give their votes to another candidate. That will hopefully create a culture of gaining votes by giving back to the people. After all, all that matters is the benefit that the people get from the political system.

The wonder that mqm has done - at the minimum - is to stop the identity of Karachi being diluted against attempts being made for decades. As regards concrete achievements, mustafa kamal period is a clear example which u should know if u r from Karachi. If a sustained period of metropolitan government had been allowed, Karachi would have been entirely different. Granted mqm may not have delivered fully but then none of the alternatives inspire much confidence. IK and JI only appeal to the non Karachi elements hailing from KPK. PML is strongly pro Punjab. PPP is limited to interior Sindh only. Of course mqm stands out as the natural choice.

Its always easy to sit in air conditioning room and comment on blogs, news etc. I am not IK khan supporter but I will ask those who criticize him. What you have done for Pakistan if he is wrong come and take a lead instead of commenting on news website. At least I am watching him for last two years challenging status quo. Response: He is honest, sincere and dedicated to his people. He does not do the politics of corruption, lies and deceit. He does not steal people's money. This 'failure' has rather, opened schools and hospitals for his people.
As a party leader, he is guiding his party in KPK legislature, to legislate well. Proper legislation is the foundation of good governance . There are no Gullu Butts in KPK police.
Which other politician in Pakistan has done more good to his people than him? At least, I don't know of any.
He did good to my countrymen. I will thank him for his services to his people...., always.

@qureshi my naive friend which status quo. He made alliance with 10 status quo parties in Hyderabad LG polls. Please get your facts right and Stop beating the old drum.
