MINGORA: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Thursday allowed the University of Swat (UoS) to formally run its FM radio transmission in Swat valley.

According to a UoS statement, acting chairman Pemra Kamaluddin Tipu handed over the FM radio licence to the university registrar, Mehboobur Rahman.

The Department of Media and Mass Communication Studies will now be able to start formal transmission, which will be the first education-based FM radio station in Malakand division.

“Permission for the educational FM radio station is not only a good sign for the university, but also for the people of the region,” said Dr Jahanzeb Khan of UoS.
