KARACHI: In the second phase of the three-phase local government elections in Sindh, where elections are scheduled for Nov 19 on 6,315 general seats in 15 districts of three divisions, 1,134 candidates have returned unopposed.

The three divisions where 15 districts are located are: Hyderabad division with nine districts, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas divisions with three districts each in the division.

The following are details of candidates in the field and those who returned unopposed in each district.

In Hyderabad division 652 candidates have returned unopposed against 3,461 total seats, leaving 2,809 candidates in the field.

In Hyderabad district against the total of 760 seats 257 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 503 seats for which 1,238 candidates are in the field.

In Sujawal district 34 candidates have returned unopposed against 290 seats, leaving 256 seats for which there are 704 candidates.

In Thatta district against the 312 seats eight candidates have returned unopposed while for the remaining 304 seats 711 candidates are in the field.

In Tando Allahyar district against 227 seats 64 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 153 seats for which 482 candidates are in the run.

In Badin district against the 566 seats 61 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 505 seats open and 1,612 candidates are in the run.

In Dadu district against a total of 545 seats 64 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 481 seats for which 12,277 candidates are in the field.

In Jamshoro district against 280 seats 82 have returned unopposed, leaving 198 seats which are being contested by 589 candidates.

In Matiari district against 257 seats 23 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 234 seats for which 729 candidates are contesting and in Tando Mohammed Khan district against the total of 224 seats 59 have returned unopposed, leaving 165 seats for which 412 candidates are in the run.

In Shaheed Benazirabad division with three districts a total of 267 candidates have retuned unopposed against 1,202 seats for which 4,620 candidates are in the run.

In Benazirbad district against 509 seats 145 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 364 seats for which 1,209 candidates are in the field.

Similarly, in Naushahro Feroze district against 573 seats 35 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 538 seats for which 1,939 candidates are in the field. In Sanghar district against 620 seats, 87 have returned unopposed while 1,472 candidates are vying for 533 seats.

In Mirpurkhas division’s three districts against a total of 1,282 seats 215 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 1,067 seats for which 2,834 candidates are in the field.

In Mirpurkhas district against 459 seats, 115 candidates have returned unopposed, leaving 344 seats for which 1,019 candidates are in the field.

In Tharparkar district against 479 seats, 22 candidates have returned unopposed leaving 457 seats open which are being contested by 1,079 candidates, and in Umerkot district against 344 seats 78 have returned unopposed, leaving 266 seats for which 736 candidates are in the field.
