Petrol, diesel prices raised

ISLAMABAD: The government increased on Saturday price of petrol by Rs2.50 and that of diesel by Rs1.75 for November.

But prices of High Octane Blending Component (HOBC), kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) were kept unchanged because of partial adjustments in sales tax rates.

Based on the existing tax rates, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) had recommended an increase of 5 to 7 per cent in prices of all oil products.

Currently, the General Sales Tax rate on petrol is 22pc, HOBC 16.5pc, kerosene 22pc, high speed diesel (HSD) 47.5pc and LDO 24pc.

The highest ever sales tax rates have been lowered by 3 to 8pc on all oil products.

The price of petrol has been raised to Rs76.26 from Rs73.76 per litre, while that of HSD was increased to Rs83.79 from Rs82.04.

Oil prices are dropping every day. Petrol price at gas station has come down from over $3.50/gallon to $1.80/gallon in most cities here in the US. How come it is increasing Pakistan?

India had the chance to decrease the oil prices but didn't did so instead we kept the oil prices same wich increased our Consolidatory Fund and stabled our currency for foreseeable future.

@S.A.Hyder. Unfortunately Fuel prices in Pakistan are effected by Rupee Devaluation against US Dollar & off course the international oil prices. Although International fuel has been falling but PKR has been declining and today it has been reported at PKR105.45 against 1 USD (Selling Rate).

This increase has come as utter disregard to declining international oil prices. I also don't find any reason except 'raising revenue' as FBR has not been able to catch 'tax evaders'. Had this happened any where else, the pressure would have been on the government to tender resignation by accepting its in competency.
