CARRYING over-sized schoolbags is a common sight in most societies in South Asia. One state of the Indian union, Maharashtra, has passed a resolution saying that no child should carry a very heavy schoolbag.
This is indeed an appreciable measure. In Pakistan, most schoolchildren are seen carrying heavy schoolbags. Parents should ensure their children don’t have to shoulder such heavy bags as it causes spine and joint problems as well as stress and fatigue.
School managements and teachers should stagger homework and school timetables in such a manner that the children do not have to carry several textbooks daily. Parents should also check their children’s bags and remove unnecessary items.
