CAA appointment

Published October 10, 2015

THIS refers to advertisement in some newspapers for the appointment of a director-general of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). It is for the first time in CAA history that CAA DG will be selected on merit from the open market after due competition.

It is a departure from the past practice where the CAA DG was appointed from either the air force or from among bureaucrats on political considerations having no aviation experience.

This will provide an opportunity to experienced persons in aviation to compete. This is also in line with the new aviation policy approved by the prime minister where high-profile appointments must be advertised to ensure strict transparency most of our organisations have suffered on account of non-transparent appointments.
