SUKKUR: Government schoolteachers boycotted classes in several Sindh towns on Friday in protest against the secretary of education who suspended services of 749 high school teachers (HSTs) of Qambar-Shahdadkot district.

The boycott was observed in response to a call of protest by the Government Secondary Teachers Association (GSTA).

In Jacobabad, teachers wore black armbands and held demonstrations in different schools after boycotting classes where the association’s leaders lashed out at the secretary and accused him of damaging public sector education by taking anti-teacher decisions.

They said the secretary was anti-Sindh who did not want children to get education and help make the province prosper. The 749 HSTs placed under suspension should be immediately reinstated, they said.

Meanwhile, Mehran Teachers Association also condemned the secretary and the advocate general over the suspension of teachers.

In Mirpurkhas, teachers of secondary schools boycotted classes in all schools in the district and held protests in the school premises.

Local GSTA leaders demanded the government immediately reinstate teachers and replace the secretary in order to end resentment and unrest among teachers.

The protesting teachers also held a demonstration outside the government boys’ high school Digri after boycotting classes.

In Badin, schoolteachers boycotted classes in several high and middle schools of the district to register protest against the secretary of education.

The protesters wore black armbands, took out rallies and staged demonstrations to express anger against the secretary for suspending teachers.

The GSTA leaders complained that the secretary of education treated teachers with utter contempt and seldom did he agreed to listen to their problems.

They urged the higher authorities to immediately reinstate the suspended teachers and remove the secretary to save Sindh’s education.
