LAHORE: The PPP Punjab leadership on Thursday held a rally at Garhi Shahu in connection with the NA-122 by-election.

A large number of PPP workers gathered in the rally. The participants were hoisting party flags and portraits of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The PPP followed the PTI model by playing party songs.

PPP Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had paid Rs477 tax in three years of 1990s as his ‘declared income.’

“Nawaz Sharif, who is the leader of Ayaz Sadiq, had not much income that he could be taxed more than Rs500 around 20 years ago. In 20-year time he made huge assets through ‘tanka’ (kickbacks). From where the Sharif brothers made Raiwind palace? By robbing people,” he said amid slogans of ‘go Nawaz go’.

Mr Ahsan also talked about ‘huge corruption’ by the PML-N government in Nandipur and LNG projects.

Wattoo said those saying the PPP was dead in Punjab were living in a fool’s paradise. The PPP would stage a comeback and make Lahore its citadel.

NA-122 candidate Aamir Hasan said the voters should defeat the politics of power and money. “The PML-N candidate is using the government machinery and the PTI’s is spending lavishly to attract voters,” he said and urged the people of the constituency to vote for the philosophy of Bhuttos.

PPP leaders Sherry Rehman, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Samina Ghurki and Faisal Mir also spoke.
