DERA MURAD JAMALI: IG (prisons) of Balochistan Ms Mumtaz Baloch has taken notice of substandard construction of a new building for Jaffarabad district jail and ordered an inquiry into the matter.

“The new jail building on whose construction a huge amount has been spent cannot be used because of water logging,” she told journalists during a visit to the prison here on Wednesday.

She said that a committee had been set up to conduct an inquiry into the matter and fix responsibility for substandard construction of the building. Action would be taken against officials found responsible for substandard construction, she added.

Ms Baloch said that prisons in Naseerabad division were not in good condition, adding that repair of the jail buildings would start and more facilities would be provided to inmates after receiving funds.

In view of the security situation, she said, walk-through gates and close circuit cameras would be installed in jails in the province.

“Effective security arrangements have been made in the jails housing high profile prisoners,” the IG (prisons) said.

Four of the 104 death row prisoners had been executed in Balochistan so far, she said.
