Kerry meets Nawaz, lauds anti-terror efforts

UNITED NATIONS: US Secretary of State John Kerry in his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appreciated Pakistan's counter terrorism efforts and the success of anti-terror operation.
Meeting on the sidelines of 70th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Secretary Kerry expressed grief and sorrow over the recent terrorist attack on Pakistan Air force (PAF) camp in Badaber.
While discussing bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues, he conveyed to Nawaz that US President Barack Obama is looking forward to the premier's visit to Washington in October.
The PM expressed deep concern over the Indian ceasefire violations alongside the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary (WB) while reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to resolve all issues through dialogue
Discussing the regional security situation, Kerry also lauded Pakistan's efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Senegal President seeks Pakistan's help in different sectors
President Macky Sall of Senegal also met PM Nawaz and praised Pakistan’s contribution to counter-terrorism and expressed his country’s interest in defence cooperation, including procurement of defence equipment from Pakistan.
Sall hailed Pakistan as one of the most important countries in OIC and the Muslim world and also praised Pakistan’s efforts towards counter-terrorism.
The Senegal president also sought to benefit from Pakistan's expertise in scientific research, science and technology, and agriculture.
PM while spelling out his vision for developing a robust relationship based on mutual interests and sustained development with African nations offered sale of defence equipment including Pakistan’s famed JF-17 Thunder aircrafts.
Nawaz further invited companies from Senegal to take advantage of Pakistan's liberal investment regime as both leaders agreed to explore ways to lift bilateral trade volume from its current level of $37 million.
The PM extended an invitation to the Senegalese president to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience. He also requested Senegal open an embassy in Islamabad soon.
At the multilateral level, cooperation in the UN and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was discussed.

Nawaz lauds role of Korean investors
In his meeting with South Korean Prime Minister, PM Nawaz lauded the role of Korean investors in Pakistan and invited more Korean companies to invest in Pakistan in special economic zones, especially in the energy sector.
After a discussion on cooperation in UN, the two countries agreed to coordinate closely to support each other’s candidatures for various UN bodies over the next few years.
Accepting Nawaz's invitation, President of South Korea agreed to visit Pakistan.
The Prime Minister on this visit is assisted by Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the PM on National Security & Foreign Affairs, Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Mr. Tariq Fatemi, Minister of State/Special Assistant to the PM on Foreign Affairs along with a number of other senior officials.

Our PM Nawaz Sharif feels pride to see Mr. Kerry, but on the other side Indian PM, Mr. Modi visited facebook head office to promote Digital India drive, pitch India as place worthy of tourists, investments, startups. What a difference?

Pakistan is always fighting war against terrorists for the peace of west, but hidden double agents of enemy are bothering citizens of Pakistan since fifty years. After 65 enemies have launched hidden intelligence cold war against Pakistan. Enemy is not big problem but friends in face of hidden enemies are great danger to state of Pakistan. Main objective is to defame security system of Pakistan to show ITEM BOMB is unsafe. Now kill each double agent even kid of top high officials.

PM should arrange a similar program as Indian government and try harder for investment from US in his scheduled meeting next month. He should meet all technology giants and corporate houses like IBM, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, twitter, oracle, Intel, Boeing, Amazon etc.

Terrorism is the worst form of enemy in the world as some disgruntled youths without understanding the reality only suffer and are killed losing their parents and family. I have observed no one is benefited because of terrorism even finally leaders. Pakistan in the world is worst sufferer of terrorism as Air force attack, school attack, attack in police station etc are only a handful cases among the many. So I suggest Pakistan Govt. must discard terrorists. This beautiful world is for all and not for killing each other .

This is a portion of a news. Indian Express says Kerry also told Nawaz to act against LeT, Haqqani and other terrorist organization irrespective of their affiliation. No good / bad Taliban. So if you want clear picture I always read both the countries news paper.

Pakistan is a small country and has less resources as compared to India but has importance in world affairs because of its geographical location and nuclear status. Thus, world has to listen what Pakistan is saying i.e., peace in the region by resolving Kashmir issue (either side) by Voting of people of Kashmir of both sides in democratic way.

In diplomacy two kinds of languages are used. One which is spoken between the leaders and we hardly come to know about it. Second is the language they speak for public consumption.
You need to watch the body language to decipher the actual truth. The above picture is a great example. NS appears to be forced into the handshake.

The real story here is the lack of any importance given to Pakistan.
We, the people of Pakistan sacrificed so much for the American war against terror and this is how our Prime Minister is treated in US. It is very clear what American priorities are now that US has got us to do its bidding. They are delaying release of funds, they are arming India against us and they are even supporting them at UN on Kashmir. May be our PM has not built a strong personal rapport with Obama. May be US knows that our PM does not really call the shots domestically so whats the point of wasting time.
The worst part is how our media is portraying this visit. Pakistan was left with a egg on the face when Kerry asked NS to rein in LeT. I believe they praised us so that the criticism is moderated. Criticism of Pakistani effort against war on terror was the real purpose of this meeting. And instead of reporting this as it is, you are using words like "lauds" our war on terror. Shame on you!

Now why would US talk about sharing technology with Pakistan, unless Pakistan has also something to offer in return, making it a worthwhile deal on both sides. Pakistan can indeed become another India, the ball is entirely in Pakistan's court. The talk about army, Kashmir, India as an enemy, etc are so very counter productive to what you are suggesting. I know I sound like someone giving an advice, but I wish well for the Pakistani people, as they deserve something better. This is a long road towards that goal, but as I say the ball is entirely with the Pakistani people. I can only hope and wish that the people in Pakistan recognize that.

@Pixell .... My brother in law, who was born in Shanghai, has been a telecom engineer at IBM in North Carolina for 15 years. Intel opened it's first overseas operation in Shanghai 15 years ago. The Chinese control the world market in rare earth metals and have a quantum leap on Pakistan in opening American factories. Rare earth metals are worth more than oil. Better start digging in Balochistan and you can have your own electronics industry.
