KARACHI: A would-be groom was shot dead by suspected robbers on resistance near Nursery on Thursday afternoon, Tipu Sultan police said.

They added that Babar Yar Khan, 29, got a few thousand dirham exchanged at a money exchange outlet to buy a sacrificial animal. As he left the place on his motorbike, two men riding a motorcycle accosted him and tried to snatch the cash from him. As he put up resistance, the suspects opened fire on him and fled, said Tipu Sultan SHO Asif Rauf.

The victim sustained a single bullet wound fired from a 30-bore pistol in the chest and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency department of the JPMC.

The police officer said the victim was set to be married on Sept 29. He said all money exchange outlets were closed because of holiday in the area except one. The money exchange operator closed the outlet after the incident. The officer said they would question him over the incident.
