Frankfurt auto show: Sports cars, concept models, SUVs delight enthusiasts

FRANKFURT: Big names in the auto industry showed off their prize vehicles at the Frankfurt auto car show on Tuesday amidst a sharp slowdown in the world's biggest vehicle market, China.

The car show will continue till September 27.

As competitors gear up to put on display new luxury sport utility vehicles at the Frankfurt auto show, Maserati keeps its fans waiting a little longer as it makes final tweaks to a model meant to reverse falling sales of the Italian brand.

Bentley's Bentayga and Jaguar's F-Pace will also be shown in Frankfurt, while deliveries of Tesla's electric Model X are due to start in two weeks.

Luxury carmarker Jaguar Land Rover expects sales this year to exceed those in 2014, with Britain, Europe and the United States compensating for a sharp decline in the Chinese market, its chief executive said.

The Chinese car market is expected to grow again next year or, at the latest, in 2017.

Forecaster IHS Automotive expects global sales of premium and luxury SUVs to grow by more than 40 percent to 1.4 million vehicles between 2008 and 2018. Overall SUV sales are expected to triple to more than 25 million over that period.

Sheer monstrosity of the insane money-men of the world. Insanely priced toys of the rich consume mountains of money in production and no real worth. The money spent in designing and production of such cars in such a large variety in very limited numbers, could have been used in developing much more convenient cars for ordinary people. Rich could have continued using their usual high profile cars already existing like Rolls.

Very happy to know that Jaguar( the iconic British car) was taken over by Tatas from Ford and the company has been turned around by them. Viva for Indian management team and for making better products to compete among the best in the world. Good boost for Indian engineers that they too if they try hard can make better products. Some examples of their skills are shown in software power and in space technology. If peace prevails between India and Pakistan they too can participate in the progress. Jai Hind

@ Indians :: Buying technology and employees from other should not make India proud and same for Pakistan also. In Software please name ONE application that is been used World Wide !! or made the difference in world economy by Indian's or Pakistani's. Trust me brothers we all are carpenters. We are very good at writing a code for some one, i hope you know what i mean. My comment is not to offend anyone but its a reality. There are thousands of Indian's and Pakistani's writing code for BIG Giants as carpenters and that should not make us super proud that we concur the industry. They have the money to use cheap labor my friend. Ali Baba should be somewhat proud but again he got his education in US and went back and did something and the whole world is getting benefiting.

@M.Saeed Just because you spent money on these cars doesn't necessarily mean you could have spent it developing convenient cars for ordinary people. What more convenience do you want in a car for an 'ordinary' person? There's a thing called R&D. These concept cars seek to bring something new to the market. Over the years, it is these cars that become the 'ordinary' car.

At the end of the day we need a car to commute. These cars are good for them who needs to showoff and have crazy money. I would be more interested to see the upcoming models of more affordable cars.

@AKRAM Please stop defending a Japanese owned firm that is selling a 32 year old Japanese design in the country. I am not criticizing the country, I am talking about a private JAPANESE firm which repatriates all its profits. The Japanese assembler mafia controls everything. The truly strong are those who realize their own weakness. This is the first step towards progress. Stay in denial and keep appreciating the industry for producing globally obsolete early 1980s junk and I guarantee you the country wont move forward.

Every car is different , as I own 996 Porsche turbo ,360 Ferrari spider also a Range Rover 4.4 v8 vogue all are petrol.but you can not use them every day.so for that I have a bmw 530d m sport!enjoy life ,live it to the max ,aim higher,achieve ,as nothing is impossible

@Ahsan I strongly recommend your words as Mehran uses the same model since Ninteen Eighty Nine, Corolla is worthless car not even used as Taxi in other countries and sold in Pakistan on Premium prices above factory price. Honda is a bit reasonable but still they are far behind, Why not we introduce Wolks Wagon and other European brands if you place Suzuki Mehran in an international auto show, They will ban the whole suzuki brands in their country no security rods in doors, no air bags and even no defogger in back screen. Even their alto has no defogger all this junk they sold us in millions of rupees.
