Bangladesh fast bowler Shahadat Hossain suspended

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board suspended fast bowler Shahadat Hossain on Sunday for allegedly torturing an 11-year-old housemaid.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury says Hossain is suspended “from all kind of cricketing activities under BCB's jurisdiction until a final decision is reached regarding the 'torture accusations' brought against him.

“The law will take its own course. BCB has nothing to do with it. He has to prove himself innocent.“

Hossain played 38 tests and 51 one-day internationals for Bangladesh in a career spanning 10 years.

He last played a test against Pakistan this year but lost his place because of injuries.

Innocent until proven guilty anyone? Organizations shouldn't make decisions based on media hype. First let a judge decide if the accused is in fact guilty or not. This is a text book case of an incompetent board.

over-access is indirectly putting irrelevant bodies as more powerful. it ought to be a court not BCB.... it should have made more sensie if court should have stripped off his rights to play for BD pending inquiry, if guilty then as per law he be punished... BCB should have acted after court's decision.... this was unnecessary to make them look like real good boards, we all know how corrupt is BCB and its officials.

Domestic violence in any form and nature is not acceptable in today's day and age. Torturing an 11 years old is a shameful violent act and must be punished.

@Hussain not when a minor is involved; for the maid, she is innocent until the adult can prove it otherwise.

@pakman Why is it a great example? He may be guilty or he may not be guilty. Let i be proven in court and only then should the Board take a decisions. What if he is accused wrongfully? Innocent until l proven guilty is the maxim in all civilized nations.

No country will progress much if 11-year-olds are in domestic service rather than in school. Was she in paid employment or was it some sort of indentured labour, serfdom or quasi-slavery?

I don't think BCB should do anything in this case. Plus or minus. Let the Law of the Land run its due course. Guilty or not guilty, it is the duty of the courts to decide. BCB should not intervene.

@pakman . I believe PCB take better stance if something happened similar . How about BD is secular country and allowing minorities living in peace no Pakistani want to follow that example.

They should have atleast waited for the decision to come against him. Feeling little sorry for Shahadat. May be he is innocent or may not be. Let the court decide first.

Well done BCB, courts do not have exclusive jurisdiction on ethical issues and will decide on the criminal charges. BCB has shown high moral by suspending him.

Surely a bolt from the blue in Bangladesh Cricket although a number of good pacers has already surfaced.Regrettable,he is entangled in such illegal act.He has gone into hiding.Can he claim innocence as such?The image of badly beaten teen-aged maid as circulated on-line calls for severe punishment as per law of the land.

@pakman Avoid dragging Pakistan and PCB into every discussion/news.. Its about a Bangladeshi Cricketer and BCB. Stick to the topic... Yes, you can argue/debate about decision of BCB being right or wrong but why dragging Pakistan when Pakistan has nothing to do with it !!!!

This is second time a BD Bowler has been accused of rape torture apart from Rubeel Hussan who was Pardoned wrongly by the maid concerned.It is highly objectionable to international Cricket that these types of Criminal cricketers are allowed to play and tour other countries by not caring what a shame it will bring to Bangla Desh miserable reputation and to cricket itself.
