ISLAMABAD: A five-member committee headed by Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif decided on Friday that a one-minute silence would be observed across the country from 9:29am to 9:30am on Sunday (Sept 6), followed by the national anthem to be played by all TV channels and radio stations from 9:30am to 9:32am to pay homage to martyrs of the 1965 War.

The nation will reaffirm on the occasion its resolve to defend the country as it did in 1965 in the event of a similar threat in future.

The committee was formed by the prime minister to oversee programmes to be held across the country to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1965 War.

During the one-minute silence vehicles and trains across the country will come to a halt. People in their homes or at workplaces will also observe the silence. This will be followed by special prayers for the martyrs.
