Corporate awards ceremony held

KARACHI: The Best Corporate Report Awards 2014, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan, were held on Friday.

According to a press release, Fauji Fertiliser Company Limited was awarded the Best Corporate and Sustainability Report Awards 2014.

Pakistan State Oil was awarded first position in the fuel and energy category.

Best Sustainability Report Awards were also given to Crescent Steel and Allied Products; ICI Pakistan and Attock Refinery. The NPOs/NGOs award went to The Citizens Foundation.

Best Corporate Report 2014 Awards were given to aggregate 31 companies in various sectors including banks; NBFIs; textile; chemicals; engineering; fuel and energy; sugar, cement and ‘others’.

McDonald’s Japan hit by another food scandal

TOKYO: McDonald’s in Japan said Friday it was investigating an incident involving a customer who was injured by plastic shards found inside a drink, the latest in a string of food contamination scandals.

The company said it temporarily closed the outlet in Osaka this week, and sent a notice to 95 other restaurants that offer the kind of green tea latte frappe sold to the woman, who said she sustained injuries to her mouth.—AFP

BlackBerry buys Good Technology for $425m

OTTAWA: Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry on Friday bought rival mobile security provider Good Technology for $425 million in a move to broaden its software sales.

With its consumer smartphone sales sagging in recent years, BlackBerry turned to mobile security for governments and corporations, a market in which Good Technology also operates.—AFP
