IT is never too late to mend our wayward ways. The introduction of the new laws for school vans by the Karachi police is a commendable step which will go a long way in ensuring road safety for our children and giving peace of mind to their parents.
However, keeping in mind the security complexes which have marred Pakistan, it is suggestive that a mechanism be devised to register school vans.
All school vans should be registered first by the respective schools and then by the area police stations.
The identity documents of the drivers and the attendants should be verified and kept on record.
On a test trail, new laws and the anticipated policy may begin from Karachi, to be then emulated by cities across Pakistan.
Such a setup may sound time-consuming, lengthy and costly but nothing is more costly than the security and well-being of our children.
