LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to a defunct outfit member as the prosecution failed to establish charges against him.

A two-judge bench observed that the prosecution should make its investigation strong to protect society from destruction.

Amjad Ashraf of Hizbul Tehrir filed the bail petition in a case of distribution of hate material.

Petitioner’s counsel said Gulberg police arrested his client and others last year invoking the Pakistan Protection Act, Anti-Terrorism Act and the Pakistan Penal Code.

The counsel said the petitioner was just sitting at the raided place and he had nothing to do with the charges levelled against him.

A prosecutor stated that police also seized maps and other material meant for the destruction of society. He said a challan had been completed and as the courts under the Pakistan Protection Act would start working, the trial would be resumed.

The bench, however, released the petitioner on bail.
