KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Saturday claimed to have arrested five suspected militants in raids conducted across Karachi.

The paramilitary force conducted targeted raids in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Gizri and Gurumandar areas of the city.

“Five terrorists belonging to proscribed outfits have been arrested in raids conducted today in Karachi,” said a spokesperson for the paramilitary force.

The spokesperson also added that a significant quantity of weapons were also recovered from the arrested individuals.

Earlier, Rangers had also claimed to have arrested multiple alleged criminals including target killers in a surgical operation conducted in the city’s Landhi-VI area on Thursday.

Karachi Corps Commander Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar earlier last week had reiterated his trust in Rangers and other law enforcement agencies leading the ‘Karachi operation’, which he said, was “apolitical, indiscriminate and free of any compromise” aimed at bringing the violence-hit city back to normality.

The deployment of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, in Karachi is requisitioned under Article 147 of the Constitution, and under Clause 1 of Sub-section 3 of Section 4 of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, authorised to prevent the commission of terrorist acts, or scheduled offences in notified area for the punishment of terrorist in accordance with the provision of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.
