LAHORE: Following recommendations of the Lahore High Court Chief Justice, the federal government has established four new banking courts under Section 5 of the Financial Institution (Recovery of Finance) Ordinance, 2001 and two special courts (offences in banks) under Section 3 (1) of the Offences in Respect of Banks (Special Courts) Ordinance, 1984, as amended by Act XVI of 1997.

The jurisdiction of these courts shall comprise the province of Punjab and shall function at premises designated by the ministry of law, says a notification issued by the LHC registrar. Four of these courts have been established in Lahore while one each in Sahiwal and Multan.
