RAWALPINDI: In an effort to find clues guiding to the killers of a senior judge, police investigators and senior officials of the Special Branch visited the scene of the murder and reconstructed the crime scene.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Khan Niazi, 48 was gunned down in his home in Satellite Town by unidentified intruders on August 5. Later, a case was registered with the Sadiqabad Police under Article-7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

However, the investigation is being carried out by the local police.

Three senior Superintendents of Police, including a woman SP of CIA and SSP Special Branch, visited the home of the late judge and reconstructed the crime scene to figure out clues.

However, no major clues were found by the visiting police investigators which would take them closer to the culprits.

“The murder of the senior judge took place inside the house and no resident or passer-by has come forward with information to help the police, even though a cash reward was offered,” a source close to the investigation told Dawn.

Earlier, the police had made a sketch of the assailants from information provided by the family of the judge. The sketch was matched with the database of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) which includes photographs of gang members, murderers and other criminals with a record. However, these efforts also proved unfruitful.

In addition to other important cases, ADSJ Niazi had recently finished work on the much publicised murder case involving Imtiaz Khokhar alias Taji Khokhar, a brother of former deputy speaker of National Assembly Haji Nawaz Khokar. A final decision by the court is expected by the end of the month.

Investigators have been working to find out whether Taji Khokhar attempted to pressurise Tahir Khan Niazi during the proceedings of the murder case.

Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi Mohammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja held a meeting with police officers leading the investigation teams and reviewed the progress made.
