SHEIKHUPURA: Police will be complainant in honour killing cases to check release of accused through compromise.

District Police Officer Sohail Zafar Chattha made the announcement at a media talk here on Friday.

It has been a practice throughout the country that accused in such cases go Scot-free through compromise as the complainants are close relatives.

Chattha said a strategy had been worked out to check crime rate in Sheikhupura which was bracketed with high crime-prone districts in the province. He said from now on clause 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act would be added to fresh and under-trial murder cases.

The DPO said criminals involved in abduction for ransom, cattle and vehicle lifting and snatching, drug pushing and property grabbing would not be speared at any cost. He said religious scholars had been told to avoid provocative speeches otherwise they would face stern action under the National Action Plan
