LAHORE: The city witnessed a number of rallies, walks, seminars and gatherings to observe anti-dengue day on Thursday, disseminating key messages among the public to adopt precautionary measures to avoid dengue virus.

The main rally was organised at Liberty Roundabout by the City District Government of Lahore (CDGL). It was led District Coordination Officer (DCO) retired Captain Usman and had health officials, MPAs and the common people as its participants.

The participants distributed handbills and posters, having information about dengue, among the motorists and the pedestrians. They were also holding and placards inscribed with slogans on dengue.

Addressing the rally, the DCO said that it was the duty of the citizens to avoid creating environment conducive to dengue breeding and growth.

“It will be possible only with the people keeping their houses and premises dry and clean, especially during the ongoing monsoon,” the DCO said while speaking on the occasion.

He urged the people to focus certain places of their houses and other premises, such as rooftops, stores, kitchen and washrooms, keeping them dry soon after use. The people should also cover utensils they used from time to time, he said.

Meanwhile, the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), Lahore Waste Management Company, health, social welfare and other departments organised separate walks and rallies.

Wasa employees took out a rally from the Zahoor Elahi Road and concluded it on Gulberg Main Boulevard. It was led by Wasa Managing Director and Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shahbaz.

LWMC held a walk on the Edgerton Road that was led by its managing director.

Health Department organised a walk on the Cooper Road. Town municipal administrations also organised walks.

RAMAZAN FLOUR: A CDGL team raided the warehouse of a general store at Mohlanwal and seized 602 bags of subsidised flour of Ramazan package.

The team, according to a spokesman, shifted the flour bags to the CDGL’s store at town hall after it had the store’s owners, Akram and Zubair, arrested. It also recommended arrest of the government officials who provided such a huge quantity of flour to the general store. Meanwhile, the price control magistrates had 19 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging in open markets.

The officials also imposed Rs85,000 fine on several others. Another team had arrested owners of three canteens, established at Safari Park, for overcharging.
