JHANG: One convict was hanged in Jhang and one in Kasur on Wednesday.

The execution of another condemned prisoner was postponed in Jhang due to the possibility of a compromise in the case.

Jhang jail authorities had received black warrants of both Ahmad Khan and Muhammad Tariq but they received the postponement order of Tariq’s hanging on July 28.

Ahmad was executed at 4:30am on Wednesday. He had murdered Shirin Khan on April 13, 2001, over a land dispute.

Jhang Additional District and Sessions Judge Sallahuddin Siddiqui had sentenced him to death on Dec 12, 2002. His appeals against conviction were dismissed.

Tariq, whose hanging was postponed, is from Faisalabad. He shot dead Muhammad Akram over an enmity on Oct 30, 2000.

On Tuesday, his family moved an application to the district and sessions judge of Khanewal that a compromise between the convict and legal heirs of the deceased was likely.

KASUR: Convict Tufail, 45, of Renala Khurd, had shot dead Bashir Ahmed and his son Muhammad Ashraf in 2001 for their witness in a case against him.

The president rejected his mercy appeal on July 10, 2015. On July 25, the Okara district and sessions judge issued black warrants of the convict.
