Two restaurants sealed in Gulberg

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed on Saturday two more renowned restaurants in Gulberg, as many on Multan Road and a food production unit in Shalimar Town for flouting pure food regulations.

The PFA teams also continued to penalise milkmen/sellers at various entry/exit points of the city.

According to officials, a Gulberg town-based PFA team headed by Farah Athar sealed Domeno Hut and Mandarin Chinese restaurant on the Main Boulevard. The owners of both restaurants reportedly failed to produce medical certificates of staffers and ensure proper cleanliness of their premises.

Another team headed by PFA Director Ayesha Mumtaz sealed Mian Ji restaurant near Manga (31km on Multan Road) and Malik Hotel on Raiwind Road.

These restaurants were sealed after the team found no soap for washing hands and utensils, with dirty and unmanaged freezers, no head cover, gloves, dirty utensils, mincing machines, cutting boards etc. There were no preventive measures for flies, insects, rodents, insect killers. The kitchens were dirty with no dustbins while the leftover meal was also stored there. The staffers had no medical certificates as well.

The Data Ganj Bakhsh team sealed AFC at Regal Chowk due to dirty and broken freezers, improper storage of chicken, dirty nails of workers.

Good job!! High time, somebody took notice of such practices! Keep it up!! Also please give names of restaurants who are following the rules and regulations. This will be positive reinforcement and incentive for others. It will also be positive news along with negative ones.

Great work by the Punjab government. A persistent effort is required, because these people give less value to health and sanitation. Employees are too not educated regarding hygienic practices. Toilets if available are not clean even for the customers let alone the employees. Washing of hands though a basic principal is not exercised. Persistent and regular audits and inspections by the teams, follow up by them and conditioning the employers to create awareness in their staff regarding hygienic practices is a long term solution to eradicate this menace.

All restaurants should be carry certificate issued by PFA and that certificate must be clearly displayed for all customers to read, restaurant owners or there staff some deliberately neglect hygiene upon them self and don't consider provide adequate washing. Restaurant owners should consider inviting restaurant guests view kitchens facilities!
